Trailer Services

Regular trailer maintenance is essential to ensure safety, functionality, and longevity.

Tires and Wheels

  • Check tire pressure regularly and inflate to the manufacturer's recommended PSI.

  • Inspect tires for wear, cracks, or damage; replace if tread depth is low or signs of dry rot appear.

  • Ensure lug nuts are tightened to the correct torque specification.

  • Rotate tires periodically (especially on tandem or multi-axle trailers).

Lights and Wiring

  • Check all lights (brake lights, turn signals, side markers, and taillights) for functionality.

  • Inspect wiring for cuts, frays, or corrosion; repair or replace as needed.

  • Ensure connectors are clean, secure, and protected from moisture.

Hitch and Coupler

  • Inspect the hitch ball and coupler for wear, rust, or damage.

  • Ensure the coupler locks securely onto the hitch ball.

  • Lubricate moving parts like the coupler latch or pintle hitch.

  • Check safety chains for damage and proper attachment.

Suspension and Axle Components

  • Inspect leaf springs, U-bolts, and shackles for wear or damage.

  • Check the axle for alignment and signs of bending or excessive wear.

  • Grease suspension components if grease fittings are present.

Wheel Bearings

  • Repack and grease wheel bearings annually or as specified by the manufacturer.

  • Replace bearings and races if damaged or excessively worn.

Brakes (if equipped)

  • Inspect brake pads, shoes, and drums for wear.

  • Check the brake controller and adjust settings for towing conditions.

  • Test and service electric brakes or hydraulic surge brakes regularly.

  • Inspect and replace brake cables or hydraulic lines if cracked or worn.

Frame and Structure

  • Inspect the trailer frame for cracks, rust, or structural damage.

  • Check for loose or missing bolts and fasteners.

  • Tighten or replace any damaged components.

Deck and Flooring

  • Inspect glow plugs for proper function and replace as needed.

  • Ensure diesel injectors are clean and functioning efficiently.

Jacks and Landing Gear

  • Test the jack to ensure smooth operation.

  • Lubricate gears and moving parts.

  • Check for cracks, bends, or instability.

Safety Equipment

  • Inspect safety breakaway system and replace the battery as needed.

  • Ensure fire extinguishers, reflective triangles, or other safety gear are onboard and functional.

Welding

  • Create, repair, or customize structures and components.
